NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN and the USA Softball Women's National Team played a 10-inning exhibition game Sunday afternoon at Matador Diamond. The format featured members of Team USA playing alongside CSUN at times during the game. The WNT defeated the Matadors 9-0.
Team USA sent 10 batters to the plate in the top of the first as The WNT would score five runs in the inning. Cat Osterman hit the first two batters of the CSUN lineup in the bottom of the first. Osterman retired the next three Matadors to wrap up the inning.
Team USA's Monica Abbott pitched for CSUN from the fourth to the seventh inning. Delaney Spaulding tripled with two outs in the bottom of the fourth off her Olympic teammate to drive in Ali Aguilar for an RBI. Ali Aguilar hit a two-run home run off of Abbott in the top of the sixth. Ally Carda hit a solo home run later in the sixth driving in what proved to be the final run of the day.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Sami Garcia recorded the first CSUN hit, a single off of the second USA pitcher of the day, Kelilani Ricketts. The WNT responded with a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Haylie Wagner relieved Ricketts and gave up back-to-back CSUN hits to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Team USA used a double play to work out of trouble. That would be the final attempt from the Matadors to score.
Osterman, Ricketts, and Wagner combined for a three-hitter. Osterman did not allow a hit in four innings of work. She struck out nine. Ricketts held CSUN scoreless in three innings. Wagner pitched the final three innings. Wagner struck out six. The trio of USA pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts in the game.
