NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Baseball's Kai Moody was placed on the ABCA/Rawlings West All-Region First Team on Wednesday, as voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association. Moody, an All-Big West First Team selection, is the first Matador since 2002 to be named to the West All-Region First Team.

Originally from San Francisco, Calif., Moody emerged as the top hitter in the Matadors' lineup and the Big West batting champion in 2021. He batted .393 for the season, which ranked in the top-25 nationally. Moody finished fifth in the Big West in on-base percentage (.459) to go with a .486 slugging percentage. He was tops on the Matadors in runs (34) and hits (55) while ranking second in RBI (25) and stolen bases (10) and third in doubles (10). Moody also homered once, drew 22 walks and only struck out 14 times in 140 at bats.
Starting the Matadors' first 36 games before going down the final weekend of the season with an injury, Moody started 19 times at second base but also displayed his versatility by making starts at first base and all three outfield positions. He finished the season with a .968 fielding percentage in 154 chances.
Moody also led the Matadors with 16 multiple-hit games as he hit safely in 32 of 36 games. He would reach base safely in all but one contest for the year.
"Kai Moody being recognized by coaches of the west region is so deserving of his play this season," said head coach Dave Serrano. "There was no secret that Kai's play on the field with the passion and energy he displayed each game stood out. He is very deserving of this recognition. We are all very proud of him."
Moody is the first CSUN player to receive West All-Region First Team honors from the ABCA since Eric Verbryke in 2002. He is also just the second Matador, joining Albee Weiss in 2018, to be placed on an all-region team in 19 years.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team selections are eligible to be nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-American teams will be announced on Saturday, June 19.
