NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Interim head coach Trent Johnson has announced the signings of incoming freshman Nick Herrmann and Division I transfers Onyi Eyisi and Miles James to the CSUN Men's Basketball team for the 2021-22 season.
Â
"All three young men bring a level of maturity, stability and a good understanding of how to play basketball and will be great additions to our program," said Johnson. "We are excited and fortunate to bring to CSUN the quality of people and players at this time of the year."
Â
Herrmann lettered four seasons at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, Calif. The 6-2 guard had an outstanding senior season in leading the Falcons to the 2021 Open Division CIF San Diego City Championship. Herrmann would make the game-winning 3-pointer to beat the buzzer to propel his team to the CIF title. Torrey Pines finished 30-1 this past season and was runners-up in the CIF State Open Division SoCal Regional playoffs. He averaged 18.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists as a senior and earned first-team All-CIF and second-team all-state honors.
Â
During his high school career, Herrmann missed a full year of basketball after he was diagnosed with bone cancer. He would return to the court in 2019 and average double-digits in scoring over his last two seasons with the Falcons.
Â
A 6-8 forward, Eyisi lettered three seasons at Fordham University where he played in 67 career games, making 25 starts. Eyisi averaged 4.4 points and 4.1 rebounds to go with 52 blocked shots with the Rams while shooting 49.6 percent from the floor. As a sophomore, Eyisi led Fordham with 21 blocked shots and posted career-best averages of 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds. He totaled 45 points and 32 rebounds over 14 games this past season.
Â
Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Eyisi attended Napa Christian School in Napa, Calif. where he played for the Prolific Prep Academy for three seasons. Eyisi helped the Crew post an impressive 27-7 record as a senior.
Â
Hailing from Inglewood, Calif., James played in 32 career games with East Carolina University over the past two seasons after originally transferring in from Palm Beach State (Junior) College. The 6-6 guard played in 23 games with the Pirates in 2019-20, which included a start, and tallied 30 points and 22 rebounds for the year. James made nine appearances off the bench for East Carolina this past season, averaging 7.3 minutes per game.Â
Â
James was a first-team All-Southern Conference player with Palm Beach State College as a freshman. He averaged 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists over 30 games and shot 37.0 percent from 3-point range (54-of-146) in helping Palm Beach State to a 2019 Southern Conference title. Previously, James was a four-year letterwinner at Inglewood High School where he was a two-time first-team all-league selection. He also spent one year at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va. in 2017-18.
