CSUN Announces 2026-27 Men's Basketball Schedule

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Head CSUN men's basketball coach Andy Newman has announced the 2026-27 schedule, featuring a 32-game regular season and 16 contests at Premier America Credit Union Arena.

On the 2026-27 docket, CSUN is scheduled to face three NCAA Tournament teams, four conference champions and six 20-win teams from last season. The Matadors also play a program-record 22 conference games including new Big West teams in Utah Valley, California Baptist and Sacramento State.

CSUN will open its 69th season of men's basketball with a two-game road trip facing Wichita State on Wednesday, Nov. 4 and Kansas State on Nov. 6. The Matadors are facing each program for the first time since 1987.

"Our schedule this year features Wichita State and Kansas State to start the year and playing two high-end opponents like that gives us a great test early and exposes where we need to get better, so I like that coming out of the gate," said Newman who enters his fourth season at CSUN.

The 2026-27 home opener is set for Thursday, Nov. 12 as CSUN takes on Grace University. The Matadors will then make their first trip to Troy University in team history on Nov. 17. Last season, CSUN prevailed at home against the Trojans, who would eventually advance to the NCAA Round of 64 in 2026.

CSUN is also set to host Delaware for the first time in school history on Nov. 20 before wrapping up the month at Weber State (Nov. 25).

The Big West's Bold Week begins on Thursday, Dec. 3 with the Matadors hosting Cal Poly. CSUN also travels to Cal State Bakersfield during the opening conference week on Dec. 5.

Non-conference play resumes with a road test at Fresno State on Dec. 9 followed by a three-game homestand. CSUN will host North Dakota (Dec. 12), La Sierra (Dec. 19) and defending Summit League champion North Dakota State (Dec. 22) during the home stretch.

"As we get into the meat of our non-conference schedule, we have some really good games against teams like Troy and North Dakota State, who were both in the NCAA Tournament, and the University of North Dakota, who had a great year last year, so our non-conference schedule is as challenging as it has been in my four years here," said Newman. "I'm really looking forward to bringing some fun, high-level basketball games to Premier America Credit Union Arena late in December."

The Matadors return to Big West play on New Year's Eve taking on Sacramento State in the state capital. CSUN also faces Utah Valley in another road clash on Jan. 2. The Wolverines are coming off a regular season championship in the WAC in 2025-26.

CSUN meets another NCAA Tournament team in California Baptist on Jan. 7 at Premier America Credit Union Arena. The Matadors will host UC Riverside on Jan. 9 before embarking on a season-high four game road stretch against Long Beach State (Jan. 14), Cal State Fullerton (Jan. 16), UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 21) and Cal Poly (Jan. 23).

The rest of January includes a two-game homestand against Utah Valley (Jan. 28) and Sacramento State (Jan. 30). After the Matadors visit UC San Diego on Feb. 4, CSUN faces UC Irvine at the Bren Events Center on Feb. 6 in a rematch of last season's Big West semifinal.

CSUN hosts a season-high four-game homestand in the month of February, beginning with Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 11. The homestand also includes tilts with Long Beach State (Feb. 13), UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 18) and Cal State Bakersfield (Feb. 20).

The Matadors conclude February in the Inland Empire against UC Riverside (Feb. 25) and California Baptist (Feb. 27). CSUN wraps up the regular season with return meetings with UC Irvine (March 4) and UC San Diego (March 6) at Premier America Credit Union Arena.

"In our league, we have new opponents in Utah Valley and California Baptist, who are always very good, and Sacramento State, who is going to be just as talented as anyone in the Big West," said Newman. "We get a chance with our non-conference schedule to get us ready for what I think is one of the toughest and deepest conference schedules that we've had since I've been here."

For the sixth consecutive season, the Credit Union 1 Big West Men's Basketball Championship will be held at Lee's Family Forum in Henderson, Nev. The four-day conference championship is set for March 10-13, 2027.

Newman led CSUN to a 20-14 overall record and 12-8 mark in the Big West last season. The Matadors reached 20 wins for the second straight season, a first for the program since 2001. CSUN also advanced to the Big West semifinal round for the first time in 12 seasons.
