NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—The CSUN Men's and Women's Cross Country teams earned a pair of academic awards from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Jan. 27.
Both Matador squads were selected as USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams for their overall academic success as a program. The CSUN men achieved a 3.11 cumulative grade point average while the CSUN women recorded a 3.20 cumulative grade point average.
"I am proud of all the athletic accomplishments that we had this season, but I am most proud of the effort and focus our team puts into the classroom," said CSUN head coach Justin Johnson. "We preach about academics a lot and our team understands that academics come first and they have shown that."
Northern Arizona was chosen as the Men's Scholar Team of the Year for the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country season. North Carolina State is the Women's Scholar Team of the Year for the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country season.
There were 150 different men's programs that were named All-Academic Teams for their efforts during the 2021 season. Creighton (3.76) had the top overall GPA. A total of 168 women's programs were named All-Academic Teams for their efforts during the 2021 season. Bowling Green and Eastern Washington (3.87) shared the top overall GPA on the women's side.
To qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
