Each week during the 2022-23 season, GoMatadors.com selects two Matadors as Student-Athletes of the Week. This week, we highlight women's volleyball's Breanna Mitchell and Men's Basketball's Atin Wright for their performances on the court.
Â
Breanna Mitchell, Women's Volleyball
CSUN libero Breanna Mitchell collected 51 digs while averaging 5.67 digs per set as the Matadors split road matches at UC Riverside and UC Davis last week. In Thursday night's come-from-behind five-set victory at UC Riverside, the true freshman out of Temecula and Linfield Christian School equaled the program's rally-scoring-era single-match record of 34 digs to lead all players. That total is also the fourth-best in school history overall, and tied for second-most in a Big West contest in 2022. On Saturday afternoon in a four-set loss at UC Davis, Mitchell added a team-high 17 digs along with a pair of aces. Mitchell is now a two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Week and Big West Freshman of the Week, having also earned the pair of recognitions together back on Sept. 19.
Â
Atin Wright, Men's Basketball
Last Tuesday, Atin Wright led the scoring effort in the Matadors' narrow 62-55 loss at California Baptist. Wright scored a game-high 16 points for CSUN including nine points in the second half. The 6-1 guard also added three rebounds, two assists and two steals to go with 3-of-4 shooting at the free throw line. This season, Wright is averaging 12.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists through four games.
