Myklebust Finishes in Top-25, CSUN 13th at Pizza Hit Lady Thunderbird Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Redshirt freshman Julia Myklebust posted her first top-25 tournament finish of the season while the CSUN Women's Golf team finished 13th Saturday at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Course.
Myklebust, who was tied for third after posting an even-par 72 in round one, struggled to an 82 in round two before closing with a four-over 76 on Saturday to finish tied for 23rd at (+14) 230. She wound up tied for fourth in the 105-player field with 10 birdies. Along with first and second place finishes in dual matches against CSU Bakersfield, Myklebust's 23rd place finish is her best tournament showing of the season.
After an opening round 330 on Thursday, the Matadors (955) posted a round of 319 in Friday's second round before closing with a 306 on Saturday to complete a 24-shot improvement from round one to round three. Arkansas State (889) carded a final round 292 to move past Seattle (890) by a single shot to win the team title. Pluem Yongyuan of Southern Utah took home individual medalist honors with a three-round score of one-over 217.

The Matadors will have a quick turnaround as they will be back on the course Monday (Mar. 14) for the opening round of the Jackrabbit Invitational host by South Dakota State in Boulder City, Nev.

- Also for the Matadors, Grace Bettis and Elle Laur tied for 65th at (+25) 241. Bettis, who had CSUN's low round of the day on Friday with a 77, closed with a seven-over 79 while Laur tied for the team-high with Myklebust and Fernanda Sosa with a pair of birdies on her way to final round two-over 74. Laur's 74 is her season-low round of the season.
- Kiran Sangha had one birdie in posting a final round six-over 78 to move up into a tie for 77th at (+30) 246.
- Sosa also closed with her best round of the tournament Saturday, following up rounds of 91-80 with a final round six-over 78 to finish in a tie for 86th at (+33) 249.
