NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN pitcher Alexis Martinez has been named Big West Softball Freshman of the Week for the second time, the league announced Monday.

Martinez tossed a complete-game two-hitter as the Matadors defeated California Baptist 2-0 on day one of the Amy S. Harrison Classic last Friday. Facing only one above the minimum, Martinez needed only 74 pitches to record her second shutout of the season. Martinez struck out two and issued the one walk.

Behind Martinez's three-hitter, CSUN defeated Sacred Heart 4-0 to conclude last Saturday's play at the tournament. Martinez needed 92 pitches (54 for strikes) to improve to 5-3 on the year. All three of her complete games in 2022 have been shutouts. She struck out three and walked three.

Martinez earned the honor previously on Feb. 21. The Matadors (9-11) travel to the University of San Diego Toreros Classic Mar. 11-13. CSUN opens the tournament on Friday against Weber State (2:30 p.m.) and San Diego (5 p.m.).
