NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN head softball coach Charlotte Morgan has announced the addition of Terry Schweikert to the Matadors' staff as the volunteer assistant coach.
"We are so excited to have Terry as an addition to our coaching staff," Morgan said. "I appreciate her taking the leap to our program and trusting us and our vision and where we know this program can go. Her expertise and many years of coaching experience will be such a great addition to our program, and we are excited to see even more growth in our players and our program this year. We look forward to having her on our staff and we know she will be a great fit for us!"
Schweikert joins the CSUN staff from UC Riverside where she worked for the Highlanders from 2017-22. Beginning as an assistant coach, Schweikert was promoted to associate head coach for her final three seasons in Riverside. The program's hitting coach, she was in the first base coaches' box on game day and oversaw operations for the entire UC Riverside program. In 2018, UC Riverside won an NISC Regional Championship and was the tournament runner-up.
"I am beyond excited to get to work with Coach Morgan and her staff," Schweikert said. I have so much respect for the direction and positive momentum that CSUN softball is headed."
Before joining the Highlanders, Schweikert was the director of operations at Texas A&M from 2013-16. She was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Aggies' softball program, including administrative duties involving team travel, budgeting, marketing and promotions, on-campus recruiting, and alumni relations.
Before A&M, Schweikert was the Director of Teamsmith, a travel softball organization, from 2005-13. At Teamsmith, Schweikert oversaw eight youth softball teams in the 10U-18U divisions. Schweikert moved to Teamsmith and the Juggernaut from Cal State Fullerton where she was an assistant coach from 2001-05. Under Schweikert's tutelage, the Titans produced two first-team All-Americans, three pro players, and one Olympian in former UCR pitching coach Jodie Cox, while winning two Big West titles and making a run to the NCAA Sweet 16. Schweikert was also a part of the 2002 and 2003 NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
Schweikert went to Cal State Fullerton from Nebraska, serving on the Huskers' staff from 1998-2001. At Nebraska, Schweikert was both the middle infield coach and the outfield coach and took responsibility for the Cornhuskers' short game and base running. The Huskers were the 2001 Big 12 Champions and the 2000 Big 12 Tournament Champions with Schweikert in the dugout and appeared in two Sweet 16 rounds. The Huskers' staff was named the 2001 NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
Schweikert's NCAA coaching career began at her alma mater in August 1996. The Mizzou alum coached the Tigers' first first-team All-American (Barb Wright) and led the team to both the 1997 Big 12 regular season and tournament championships. Schweikert and her peers were selected as the 1997 Big 12 Staff of the Year and the 1997 Midwest Region Staff of the Year.
After graduating from Missouri in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, Schweikert coached at Parkview High School in Springfield, Mo. (1985-91) and Hopkins High School in Hopkins, Minn. (1991-96).
A two-year captain at Mizzou, Schweikert garnered All-Midwest Region honors and was the 1983-84 Missouri Softball Player of the Year. After earning Rookie of the Year status in 1981-82, she led the Tigers to the 1983 Women's College World Series.
