NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN's sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin collected her second-straight Big West Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday, the league office announced. Mauldin helped lead CSUN to a 4-0 shutout of Cal State Bakersfield last Thursday at Matador Soccer Field.
In front of the goal, Mauldin picked up four saves on 11 total shots against Cal State Bakersfield. Two of her four saves came in the first 12-plus minutes of action while she faced three corner kicks during that span. Mauldin would stop three shots in the first half, giving CSUN an opportunity to score twice to take a two-goal lead at halftime. She notched her final save in the 72nd minute and withstood seven total shots along with seven corner kicks in the second half to secure the shutout.
Mauldin's clean sheet was her second in three games and third overall on the year. Through four Big West matches, Mauldin has posted 27 saves to go with a 0.75 goals-against-average and .900 save percentage.
In The Big West, Mauldin ranks second in the conference in overall saves (69), third in saves per game (5.31) and fourth in save percentage (.767) along with a season 1.69 GAA. Nationally, Mauldin ranks 12th in Division I women's soccer in saves while she is 35th in saves per game.
Mauldin is the first CSUN player in team history to win the Big West Defensive Player of the Week award in back-to-back weeks, and the first to win two defensive awards in the same season since Jovani McCaskill accomplished that feat in 2016.
CSUN returns to the pitch on Sunday afternoon to host Long Beach State at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
