CSUN Baseball to Host Second Annual Preseason Banquet Dinner

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Baseball will host its second annual Preseason Banquet Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024 at the Orchard Conference Center.

Tim Mead, longtime Los Angeles Angels Vice President of Communications, will be a guest speaker at the event along with sports psychologist Mario Soto and CSUN head baseball coach Eddie Cornejo. CSUN alum Dave Zall will serve as master of ceremonies.

Mead spent 40 years in the Los Angeles Angels organization in various roles including 22 seasons as the team's Vice President of Communications where he oversaw the club's media relations, publicity and broadcasting operations. He would be the team's VP of Communications for their World Series victory in 2002. Mead most recently served as president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, a post he held for two years.

Soto, who serves as sports psychologist to CSUN Baseball, has a background in performance sports including baseball, basketball and martial arts. He is a full-time consultant to elite athletes, coaches, executives and corporations around the world. His extensive coaching resume includes working with performers such as Manny Pacquaio, HOF coaches Freddy Roach and Robert Garcia and NFL players Juju Smith-Schuster and Adoree' Jackson.
Zall lettered two seasons for CSUN, then San Fernando Valley State College, from 1970-71 where he was a member of the school's first Division II National Championship team in 1970 under head coach Bob Hiegert. During Valley State's magical season, Zall collected All-CCAA and All-District honors as an outfielder for the Matadors.

Under the direction of Cornejo, CSUN Baseball is coming off its most wins in 21 years this past season. The Matadors finished with a 34-17 overall record and 20-10 Big West mark, falling one game short of a Big West title.
