BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Freshman Gracie Piar is in the top-40 to pace the CSUN women's golf team after two rounds of the Valley Invitational Monday at Bakersfield Country Club.Â
The Matadors posted an opening round 321 before posting a four-shot improvement (317) in the afternoon round. At 638, CSUN is 13th in the field but heads into the final round just 15 shots out of the top-10. San Francisco (591) carries a four-shot lead over UC Davis (595) into Tuesday's final round while the Aggies' Elvira Rastvortseva is the individual lead at even-par 144, three shots clear of Hannah Zeman and Toni Sottile of San Francisco who share second at 3-over 147.
Piar, who had four birdies on the day, opened with a 7-over 79 before finishing the day with a 5-over 77. After posting nine pars in each round, Piar is currently tied for 37th at 12-over 156 and heads into Tuesday's final round just four shots out of a potential top-20 finish.

"We need to improve on our decision making around the greens as well as our speed control with putting. We struggled to be consistent with these two areas, and that's what hurt us. But it's still the beginning of the season, so lots of time to get to work."
All teams will tee-off Tuesday's final round with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. CSUN will open the day on the 15th through 18th tees.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- Julia Myklebust, coming off a sixth-place finish at last week's CSUN Tri-Match, is tied for 56th at 17-over 161 after 36 holes. Myklebust had a single birdie in each round but improved her total of pars from eight in round one to 10 in round two.
- Fernanda Sosa Stackpole opened with a 10-over 82 before posting a birdies in the afternoon round to finish at 8-over 80. At 18-over 162, Sosa Stackpole is tied for 60th in the 77-player field.
- After opening with a 6-over 78, which included one birdie and 10 pars, Elle Laur finished round two at 12-over 84 and is also tied with Sosa Stackpole for 60th at 18-over 162.
- Kim Turgut rounded out the CSUN lineup as she is tied for 67th at 20-over 164 after posting rounds of 83-81.
- Grace Bettis, competing as an individual, is currently 73rd at 23-over 167 after scores of 87-80.
