CSUN Posts Final Round 319, Finishes 13th at Valley Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The CSUN women's golf team closed with a final round 319 but could not move up from a 13th-place finish Tuesday at the Valley Invitational at Bakersfield Country Club.Â
After posting team scores of 321-317 over two rounds on Monday, the Matadors finished with a round of 319 on Tuesday to finish with a three round total of 957. San Francisco (897) led from start to finish as the Dons won the team title by one shot over UC Davis (898). San Francisco's Riana Mission overtook three players to win individual medalist honors with a three round total of three-over 219, one shot better than three players who finished second at four-over 220.
Freshman Gracie Piar was CSUN's low scorer for the third time in 2022-23 after finishing in a tie for 40th at 19-over 235. Piar, who had four birdies over Monday's two rounds, had two birdies over her opening nine holes on Tuesday to get to even-par for the day. But three pars, five bogeys and one double-bogey nine holes capped a final round 7-over 79.

"It's basically echoing what I said after yesterday's rounds that it's still the beginning of the season, so lots of time to get to work. I observed quite a bit these last few days, so we'll put a game plan into place, then it's just a matter of executing it during tournaments."
The Matadors play their second tournament of the spring next week (Feb. 13-14) as CSUN travels to Washington, Utah for the Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational at Green Spring GC.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- Julia Myklebust had CSUN's best round of the day, finishing with 13 pars on her way to a 6-over round of 78. Myklebust was 3-over through 10 holes before finishing three-over over her final eight holes to finish tied for 54th at 23-over 239.
- Fernanda Sosa Stackpole finished with a 9-over 81 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 59th at 27-over 243.
- Elle Laur also moved up one spot on Tuesday to tie Sosa Stackpole for 59th following an identical final round 81.
- Kim Turgut rounded out the CSUN lineup, tying for 69th at 31-over 247 following rounds of 83-81-83.
- Grace Bettis, competing as an individual, remained in 73rd place at 33-over 249 after posting scores of 87-80-82.
