WASHINGTON, Utah - Freshman Gracie Piar is in the individual lead after firing a 5-under 67 in the opening round of the Utah Tech Cafe Zupas Trailblazer Invitational Monday at Green Spring Golf Course. The second round of the tournament was suspended due to darkness and will resume Tuesday morning followed by the final round.
Piar began the day on the No. 5 tee and was 1-under through five holes after consecutive birdies at No. 8 and No. 9. After seven straight pars, Piar made birdie at the 17th and 18th to move to 3-under. The freshman from East Alton, Ill. then closed her round with two pars and two more birdies to finish at 5-under 67.Â
Â
Piar's round is the lowest by a CSUN golfer since Clariss Guce carded a 67 at the Fresno State Classic in 2014. The low round in program history is held by Ashlee Nagamine who carded a 66 at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational in 2009.
As a team, the Matadors posted a 309 in round one and were third behind California Baptist (305) and Tarleton State (306). CSUNÂ has moved up to second behind the Lancers with the second round nearing completion.

COACH MICHELLE WINKLER SAID
"I am so proud of Gracie as well as the rest of the team. We had individual meetings on Friday to take a complete inventory of where we're at in our games. They all are very motivated to turn things around and are showing it right away. I have a feeling we'll finish strong tomorrow no matter the outcome."
All teams will finish the second round Tuesday morning before beginning the final round immediately afterwards.
