#23 CSUN Water Polo Travels to #10 UCSB on Saturday

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---No. 23 CSUN Water Polo (16-9, 0-3 Big West) returns to Big West action with a Saturday afternoon test against No. 10 UC Santa Barbara at noon. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
CSUN competed at the Whittier Invitational last Sunday and posted a 1-1 record at the event. The Matadors led from start-to-finish against Whittier in a 13-6 triumph while CSUN would drop a low scoring 5-2 battle to No. 21 Brown to close the day.
Nine different Matadors hit the net in the win over Whittier with Dorottya Telek recording a hat trick while Jessica Matkovich and Anna Pal had two goals apiece. Pal also posted four assists to lead the team. In front of the cage, Meghan Lopez tallied 13 saves.
Telek and Valeria Martinez scored the Matadors two tallies against Brown. On the defensive side, CSUN recorded 13 steals and five field blocks in the match while Lopez posted 10 more saves.
MATADOR HEADLINES
With four more goals scored last weekend, Dorottya Telek sits at a Big West-leading 88 goals on the season. Telek, who already broke the school's single-season goal record this year, moved up to eighth place on the school's all-time career goal list with 165 tallies. Jenny Jamison (2011-14) is just above Telek in seventh place on the career list with 169 goals.
Other team leaders in goals this season include Shelby Hovanesian who has 30 goals scored. Anna Pal has hit the net 25 times while Helena Sandhagen has scored 15 times.
On the Big West top-10 assist list, Pal sits in first place with 35 helpers followed by Hovanesian is in eighth place with 21 assists. Meghan Lopez paces The Big West in the saves department with 224. CSUN also places three on the top-10 steals list with Telek in second place (37), Pal in fourth place (30) and Valeria Martinez in eighth place (26).
SERIES HISTORY
UCSB leads CSUN 22-18 in the all-time series, which dates back to the Matadors' first season in 2002. The Gauchos have won the last six meetings in the series including two matches last season. CSUN is seeking its first win in the series since 2017.
A CLOSER LOOK AT UC SANTA BARBARA
The Gauchos are 15-8 on the season with a 0-3 mark in Big West play. The team has not played since March 12 when the Gauchos fell to UC Davis by a 12-10 score. UCSB has won five of eight matches at Campus Pool this season.
Caitlyn Snyder tops the Gauchos with 44 goals, which ranks fifth-best in The Big West. Snyder also leads the team with 33 assists and 33 steals. Other top scorers include Leigh Lyter with 33 goals and Cami Mras with 26 goals. Madison Walker has 161 saves on the year to go with an 8.44 goals-against-average.
