NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---No. 25 CSUN Water Polo dropped a 22-6 decision to No. 8 Long Beach State on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Matador Pool. Senior Leah Huisar and freshman Sophia Cooper had two goals apiece to lead the Matador offense.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beach took control at the start, scoring twice in the opening minute before eventually building a 5-0 lead through the first quarter of action. The Matadors could not get much going offensively in the first half as they were held in check by a stingy Beach defense over the 16 minutes. Long Beach State recorded five more goals in the second period in building a 10-0 lead at halftime.Â
Lucy Miszewski, who scored seven times on the afternoon, got her offense going in the third period with back-to-back goals to start while she capped a 6-0 Beach start to the quarter with another goal at the 2:24 mark. CSUN finally found the scoring column moments later after Mira Dravucz connected on a five-meter penalty. The third period concluded with two straight CSUN goals, scored by Cooper and Huisar as the Matadors trailed 17-3. CSUN received three more tallies in the fourth period with Cooper and Huisar scoring their respective second goals while MacKenzie Wood found the back of the net as well. Meanwhile, the Beach scored five more times in the fourth period, capped by Elisa Portillo's sixth goal of the match in the final minute of action.Â
