Matadors Ninth After Opening Round of Big West Championship

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The CSUN women's golf team carded an opening round 326 and is in ninth place after 18 holes Sunday at the 2023 Big West Women's Golf Championship at Spanish Trail Country Club.
The Matadors head into round two on Monday 15 strokes back of eighth-place Hawai'i (311). Cal Poly (292) is the team leader after round one with UC Riverside (295) second, Cal State Fullerton (297) and Long Beach State (297) tied for third, UC Davis (302) and CSU Bakersfield (302) tied for fifth and UC Irvine (309) seventh.

CSUNÂ SCORES
- Redshirt sophomore Elle Laur is CSUN's low player after one round after finishing the day at 7-over 79. Laur had one birdie and 10 pars along with six bogeys on the day and heads into round two tied for 30th.
- Kim Turgut is one shot behind Laur, tied for 34th at 8-over 80. Turgut was 1-under through four holes after the first of her team-high two birdies. She then finished 9-over on her remaining 14 holes to finish the day at 8-over.
- Gracie Piar had one birdie and was 2-over through six holes before finishing 9-over on her final 12 holes to card a round of 11-over 83. Piar heads into the second round in a tie for 38th place.
- Grace Bettis also had a pair of birdies but also had two quadruple bogeys in a round of 12-over 84. Bettis finished the day tied for 41st.
- Fernanda Sosa Stackpole rounded out the CSUN lineup as she is tied for 44th at 16-over 88.
