CSUN Posts 18-Shot Improvement in Round Two of Big West Championship

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - After carding an opening round 326, the CSUN women's golf team posted an 18-stroke improvement on Monday with a second round 308 but remained ninth after 36 holes of the 2023 Big West Women's Golf Championship at Spanish Trail Country Club.
With a two round total of 634, CSUN heads into the final 12 shots behind eighth-place CSU Bakersfield (622). Cal Poly (591) continues to hold the team lead but Long Beach State (592) moved into second with UC Riverside (599) third, Cal State Fullerton (692) fourth, UC Davis (607) fifth, Hawai'i (613) sixth and UC Irvine (616) seventh.
The Matadors, who had one player score in the 70's on Sunday, put four of five players in the 70's on Monday led by Elle Laur's 3-over 75. Laur, who opened with a round of 79, posted a team-leading four birdies and nine pars on Monday to move up from 30th into a tie for 21st at 10-over 154.

- Kim Turgut also had two birdies on Monday to move up from 34th to 31st following a second round 6-over 78. Turgut is at 14-over 158 through 36 holes.
- Gracie Piar posted three birdies as she notched a six-hot improvement from round one to round two. With a 5-over 77 on Monday, Piar moved into a tie for 35th at 16-over 160.
- Grace Bettis also moved up on Monday with a 6-over round of 78. Bettis is now tied for 37th at at 18-over 162.
- Fernanda Sosa Stackpole posted a five-shot improvement with a second round 11-over 83 to move into 42nd place at 27-over 171.
