NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—CSUN's Mikayla Carman and Lauryn Carranco earned a pair of Big West honors as announced by the conference on May 8.
Carman was selected Big West Field Player of the Week after leading the Matadors to a three-game sweep at UC San Diego. The sophomore left fielder's 2-out, 2-RBI double in the top of the eighth propelled CSUN past UCSD 4-3 to open the series last Friday night. Carman went 3-for-4 with three RBI to begin the series. Then, in a game featuring four hits, Carman drove in the game-winning run in CSUN's 1-0 victory over UCSD in Saturday's doubleheader in La Jolla.
Carman hit .364 for the weekend with a .455 slugging and a .364 on-base percentage. She scored one run with a double and a sacrifice hit. She added two putouts in the field.
Carranco was selected Big West Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row and for the third time this season.
In last Friday's opener against the Tritons, Carranco scattered seven hits, struck out four, and walked one in seven innings. She carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning in Saturday's nightcap. However, Carranco would end up with a two-hitter as she posted her second solo shutout of the year. She struck out seven in her fifth complete game of the year.
For the weekend, Carranco was 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA. She struck out 11 in 14 innings. UC San Diego hit .188 against the Clovis, Calif. native on the weekend.
Winners of six in a row, CSUN (25-22, 16-8 Big West) hosts UC Santa Barbara (26-19, 13-11 Big West) to conclude the regular season this weekend. Friday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
