CSUN Top 10 – No. 6 Diaz Named Big West Freshman of the Year

From June 20 to July 24, GoMatadors.com will present its top 10 CSUN sports moments from the 2022-23 year. At No. 6, David Diaz was named Big West Freshman of the Year.
David Diaz was named Big West Freshman of the Year on Nov. 1, 2022. Diaz became the first Matador to be named Big West Freshman of the Year since 2005 (Kevin Guppy) and the fourth CSUN men's soccer player to be selected for the honor.
A member of the Big West All-Freshman team, Diaz tied for second on the team in assists with Dylan Gonzalez (3) as the duo ended the regular season tied for 11th in the conference in the category. Diaz scored twice during the 2022 campaign and was tied for third on the club in scoring with Gonzalez (7).
Diaz parlayed his CSUN success into a professional contract with Central Valley Fuego FC of USL League One in the Spring of 2023.
