Each week during the 2023-24 season, GoMatadors.com selects two Matadors as Student-Athletes of the Week. This week, we highlight women's cross country's Nicole Contreras and men's soccer's Cooper Wenzel for their individual performances on the field of play and on the field.
Nicole Contreas, Cross Country
Nicole Contreras was the Matadors' top runner at the Sept. 16 UC Riverside Invitational. She collected 33rd-place points (41st overall) after running a career-best 6k time of 21:31.6.
Contreras' time was the fifth fastest in school history.
Cooper Wenzel, Soccer
Cooper Wenzel recorded his ninth career shutout as CSUN and LMU played to a 0-0 on Sept. 16. Wenzel made five saves against the Lions which raised his career total to 138. He is now ninth in school history in the category. Wenzel is now tied with Henrik Regitnig (2017-18) and Jeff Blumkin (1986-89) for seventh in school history in career shutouts.
