NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer's sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin received her first career Big West Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday, the league office announced. Mauldin would give up just one goal in 180 minutes of action for the Matadors who earned two points in Big West action.
On the week, Mauldin finished with 14 saves against 39 total shots while she collected her second shutout of the season, and third of her career.
Mauldin's work in front of the goal limited UC Davis, the second-best scoring team in The Big West, to zero goals in Thursday's match. She collected seven saves in the 0-0 draw with the Aggies, including picking up two key saves in the final seven-plus minutes of action to ensure the clean sheet.
On Sunday, Mauldin would record seven more saves in holding Cal State Fullerton to a single goal in a 1-1 tie. Mauldin gave up a first-half goal to the Titans in the 23rd minute but went on to record four saves over the final 66-plus minutes. Her work on the defensive end allowed the Matadors to rally with a game-tying goal in the 84th minute from Izabel Reyes.
Originally from Bakersfield, Mauldin leads The Big West with 65 saves on the year while she is third in the conference in saves per game (5.42) and sixth in save percentage (.756). In just two seasons with CSUN, Mauldin is already up to ninth place in team history in career saves with 120.
Mauldin is the first Matador to earn a Big West Player of the Week award this season and the first to pick up the weekly defensive honor since Amanda Delgado won the award on Oct. 18, 2021.
CSUN continues Big West play on Thursday with a home meeting with Cal State Bakersfield. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
