
CSUN Women's Soccer Trio Earn Academic All-District Honors

2024 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams
NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Senior Ashly Torres and juniors Cailey Jackson and Sami Kolin from the CSUN Women's Soccer team collected College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors on Tuesday for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
The CSC academic awards program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on and off the field each year. The academic qualifications for the distinction are a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. Nominated student-athletes must be a sophomore academically and must have participated in at least 90 percent of the team's games this season or start 66 percent of the time.
A Simi Valley native, Torres wrapped up her collegiate soccer career in 2024, starting all 19 games in the midfield. She led the Matadors with a career-high three assists while she also posted personal bests in shots (12) and shots on goal (5). Torres played in 1,444 minutes on the field, seeing full time in 11 contests. In 76 career matches with CSUN, Torres started 66 games from 2021-24 where she totaled one goal, five assists and seven points.
Torres is a double major at CSUN, studying Business Administration Marketing and Management. She will graduate next spring from CSUN. Over her time at CSUN, Torres was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team in 2023 while she has earned two Big West All-Academic Team selections in addition to Big West All-Freshman Team honors for her play on the field.
Jackson, a Rancho Cucamonga native, had a career season with the Matadors in 2024. She started all 19 matches at forward for the first time in her career while she finished second on the team with a career-high four goals and 10 points. Jackson was also second in shots with 35 with 19 on goal. She totaled three points in Big West play including a game-winning strike at Cal State Bakersfield late in the season. For her efforts on the field, Jackson collected her first career All-Big West Honorable Mention selection after the regular season.
Jackson is majoring in Public Health at CSUN. She previously earned Big West All-Academic Team honors last fall.
Originally from Moraga, Kolin started all 19 matches for the first time in her three-year CSUN career in 2024. Kolin finished with an assist and four shots with two shots on goal. A stalwart on the defensive unit, Kolin was third on the team in total minutes played with 1,641 for the season. She played full time in 17 of 19 games including nine Big West matches as she contributed to CSUN's three shutouts on the year.
A Business Administration Marketing major, Kolin was previously named to the Big West All-Academic Team last season.
College Sports Communicators began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored more than 38,000 deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all division with elite Academic All-America scholar-athletes honors.
