NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN head women's water polo coach Matt Warshaw has released the 2025 schedule, highlighted by five home matches and an early season road trip to the University of Indiana.
"The non-conference schedule will give us potential to improve our national ranking before running the gauntlet that is Big West women's water polo with all but one team ranked in the top 20," said Warshaw who enters his ninth year leading the program. "I'm excited to have our team challenged early in the season with some tough road opponents, grinding things out in January and February will inevitably pay dividends when conference competition begins."
CSUN opens the 2025 spring schedule for the fourth-straight season competing at the Beach Invite, hosted by Long Beach State on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Matadors face Cal State Monterey Bay in the season opener before closing the day with a match against Ottawa University Arizona.
Week two of the 2025 season takes the Matadors to the Indiana Classic in Bloomington, Ind. CSUN will play four teams from Jan. 25-26 beginning with host Indiana, a team ranked No. 12 at the end of last season. Day one concludes with a match against McKendree before the Matadors square off with Carthage College and Mount St. Mary's on day two of the Indiana Classic.
The non-conference season includes invites at the Cal Lutheran (Feb. 1), California Baptist (Feb. 8) and Santa Clara (Feb. 14-15). CSUN wraps up the month of the February at the Convergence Tournament, hosted by Occidental and the Claremont Mudd-Scripps (CMS). The Matadors take on Cal State Monterey and UC Merced on day one of the Convergence Tournament (Feb. 28) before facing Redlands and CMS on day two (March 1).
The Matadors open their home schedule on Sunday, March 2 hosting Villanova at Matador Pool. A week later, CSUN kicks off Big West play with a pair of tests out of the gate. CSUN hosts UC Davis on Friday, March 7 in the 2025 Big West opener before facing defending Big West champion Hawai'i on March 9. The Rainbow Wahine finished ranked No. 3 in the nation last season and played in the national semifinals.
On Friday, March 14, CSUN heads to UC Irvine, a perennial top-10 team, in another Big West clash then travels to San Diego State for the Aztec Invitational (March 15). The Matadors visit Big West runner-up Long Beach State on March 22 to close the road stretch.
CSUN continues Big West play by hosting Cal State Fullerton on March 29 before wrapping up their home schedule taking on UC San Diego on April 5. The 2025 regular season concludes at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 12.
This season's Big West Women's Water Polo Championship will take place from April 25-27 at UC Irvine's Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The Matadors are coming off their most successful season in nearly a decade. CSUN finished at 18-15 last season, tied for a No. 16 national ranking. The team's 18 wins were the program's most since the 2014 season while the Matadors' national ranking was their highest since 2015.
