CSUN Falls to Long Beach State in Series Finale

LONG BEACH, Calif.—CSUN lost the series to Long Beach State as the Beach claimed the final game on Tuesday afternoon with a final score of 2-1. Jerzie Liana got her first home run of the season to give the Matadors their only run of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Matadors' and Beach's defense started strong as both teams didn't allow a single run in the first four innings. Both threatened to score through the first two innings as they each got runners on base, but neither team made it home. In the third inning, Isabella Alonso got three batters out in a row. The Matadors were the first to find an opening as Liana hit a home run into left field to give CSUN the lead at 1-0. The Beach was quick to respond as they hit their own home run to even the score at 1-1. Alonso kept Long Beach's offense from scoring as she sent three batters packing once more. The Beach wouldn't stay down long as a double in the bottom of the seventh would bring in a runner to take the game 2-1.
NOTES OF THE GAME

CSUN's overall record drops to 17-15 and its conference record is now 1-8. Long Beach improves its overall record to 12-23 and its Big West record to 7-2.

Isabella Alonso pitched for 6.1 innings. She got three strikeouts and allowed six hits with two runs.

"We go right back to practice tomorrow and get ready, and I have faith that as a unit we will do that. A tough one, it never feels good to lose, but now we got to be able to have a short term memory and be able to come up tomorrow."
UP NEXT
The Matadors head back home to take on Cal State Fullerton at Matador Diamond. They open the three-game series with a double header slated to begin on Saturday, Apr. 6, at 1 p.m.
