Mikayla Carman Named Big West Field Player of the Week

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—Mikayla Carman was named Big West Field Player of the Week on Monday, May 6. In CSUN's three-game sweep over UC San Diego, Carman had six hits, five runs, and five RBIs.
On Saturday, May 4, Carman helped CSUN defeat the Tritons 9-7 with two vital hits. She hit a single up the middle in the third inning to help the Matadors trim the deficit to 6-2. She then scored herself to pull CSUN within 6-3. Her final hit was a double to bring in two runs and tie the game for the Matadors at 6-6 in the fourth inning.
In the opener of Friday's doubleheader, she had three hits while scoring two runs, and knocking in two to help CSUN take a 10-2 win in six innings. In the third inning, she scored on a Tritons error before doubling to bring in two runs, giving the Matadors a 7-2 lead. In game one, Carman gathered one run and one hit to assist CSUN in winning with a 7-0 shutout over UC San Diego. She helped the Matadors by scoring in the sixth inning to raise CSUN's lead 3-0.
Carman reached two new season highs with three hits and three RBIs in a single game. She also had two doubles over the weekend. Overall, Carman has 19 runs, 19 RBIs, and 53 hits this season. She is now hitting .363 with a .452 slugging percentage. Carman leads the team in hits (53) and doubles with nine. In the Big West, Carman is tied for fourth in hits (52), tied for fifth in doubles (9), and eighth in batting average (.364).
CSUN has collected four Big West Player of the Week awards already this season with Lauryn Carranco earning Pitcher of the Week twice on Feb. 19 and Mar. 4. The other two weekly awards belong to Lulu Sanchez as she earned Freshman of the Week on Feb. 26 and Apr. 22.
CSUN (24-24, 8-16 Big West) prepares to hit the road for UC Santa Barbara for the last series of the regular season. The Matadors open the series against the Gauchos with a doubleheader slated to begin on Friday, May 10, at noon. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
