NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN head softball coach Charlotte Morgan has announced the hiring of Jaymi Steward as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 year.
Â
"I am thrilled to announce Jaymi Steward as a member of our coaching staff," said Morgan. "She not only has been through our program but has been the standard in everything we teach. I am excited to have her on staff to develop our student athletes on the field and help navigate life as a CSUN Matador. Jaymi has the work ethic, the drive and the passion that I was looking for to join our program."
Â
A former standout on the diamond at CSUN, Steward previously spent the 2023 season on Morgan's coaching staff as the program's director of player development. With Steward in the dugout, the Matadors returned to the postseason for the first time in eight seasons with their appearance in the National Invitational Softball Championship. Steward also helped the Matadors finish third in the Big West with a 19-8 league record to go with an 28-24 overall mark.
Â
Steward, a Redlands native, was a five-year letterwinner and two-time all-conference outfielder with CSUN from 2018-22. As a senior, Steward led CSUN in a host of categories including batting average (.306), home runs (6), RBI (27), runs scored (32), doubles (10), slugging percentage (.471), on-base percentage (.389) and stolen bases (18).
Â
She garnered All-Big West First Team honors in 2022, becoming the first Matador in three seasons to earn that distinction, while she was also an honorable mention in 2021. Over her career, Steward totaled 129 hits, 88 runs scored, 75 RBI and 19 homers in 180 career games, which included 141 starts.
Steward graduated from CSUN in 2022 with a degree in Criminology and Justice Studies.
