NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN Beach Volleyball has finalized its 2025 schedule as the Matadors open their 12th season of the sport on Feb. 22 with the first of 29 matches that precede the 2025 Big West Championship in Santa Monica.
I'm really excited about our schedule this season, said Ari Homayun who opens her third season as CSUN beach head coach in 2025. We are facing a ton of opponents that we have not played before, especially from the East Coast, so I'm looking forward to seeing how we fair against teams from across the country.
After opening the 2025 season with a home tri-dual against Hope International and Cal State LA, the Matadors will travel to Los Angeles for the Battle for LA tournament for the first time. Over two days, CSUN will take on a host of nationally-ranked teams including LMU, Washington, Pepperdine, and 2024 national runners-up UCLA.
The early part of March features three home tri-duals as CSUN welcomes Mercer and Cal State Bakersfield on Mar. 5, Concordia Irvine and Utah on Mar. 7, and Utah and Santa Clara on Mar. 8. The Matadors then head across the Valley to Malibu to meet UTEP and Morehead State (Mar. 15) at Pepperdine's Wave Invite.
Two more midweek home tri-duals against Florida International and Colorado Mesa (Mar. 18) and The Master's and Nebraska (Mar. 19) will provide a tune-up for the annual Big West Challenge at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex in San Luis Obispo. The event pits all seven Big West teams against each other over three days (Mar. 21-23) in a tournament that will seed for the conference championship in April.
Two road dual matches at Concordia (Mar. 28) and Cal State Bakersfield (Apr. 5) follow before CSUN closes the regular season with a home tri-dual against Cal State LA and Cal State Bakersfield (Apr. 8) and a road tri-dual in Los Angeles against LMU and Bakersfield.
The Big West Championship, now in its ninth season, is scheduled for April 24-25 at Ocean Park Courts in Santa Monica.
Our schedule is also definitely more challenging, but the team is ready to meet those challenges head-on and there is growth waiting to happen when you compete against the best teams in the country, added Homayun. We have a ton of home matches, and we are hosting the Big West Championship in Santa Monica which is going to be such an electric atmosphere.
CSUN finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 16-21, coming within one victory of matching the program record for single-season wins. Homayun has led the Matadors to 33 wins in two seasons as head coach.
CSUN, seeded fifth in 2024 Big West Beach Championship in Long Beach, opened the tournament against No. 1-seed Cal Poly falling 5-0. The Matadors then dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to No. 4-seed UC Davis before being eliminated in a 3-0 decision to No. 2 seed Long Beach State.
