CSUN Completes Fifth Meet of Season and Final Tuneup Before Big West Championships

FULLERTON, Calif --- CSUN Men's and Women cross country teams completed their last regular season meet of the year at the John Elders Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. Ailani Valiente paced the three Matador women runners with a time of 23:49.4.. Robert Guerrero paced the four Matador men in the race with a time of 25:21.8. Vailente finished 25th while Guerrero finished ninth.Â

WOMEN
Valliente's previously mentioned time of 23:49.4 was good enough to enter the Top 25 of the 64-runner field. Behind her was Zyanya Torres who finished in 36th place with a time of 24:56.5. Kahlai Cruser narrowly got in the top 40 with a mark of 25:29.3. Valor Track Club took first place in the race. Riverside City College grabbed second.

MEN
Guerrero cracked the top 10 at ninth place with the previously mentioned time of 25:21.8. It was a personal best for Guerrero. Freshman Raul Verges slotted in 31st place with a time of 26:22.8, a personal best for him as well.. Another freshman, Omar Heredia finished with a time of 26:27.8., and that was his best time in his young CSUN history. Rounding out the CSUN competitors was senior Ja'Patrick Smith, who finished in 51st place with a time of 27:19.2.Â

"Had a small group of seven wrap up their season with four running a personal best time. It was encouraging to see the growth over the season and looking to these seven to be on our Big West squad next season."
