Coach Charlotte Morgan Reaches Milestone With 100th Career Win
4/9/2025 3:11:00 PM | Softball
NORTHRIDGE, Calif -- CSUN Softball head Coach, Charlotte Morgan reached a milestone this past weekend when the softball team defeated UC Davis, 12-1 in five innings Sunday at Matador Diamond. She reached her 100th win, making her the fifth coach ever in program history to reach such a milestone.Â
Â
Coach Morgan entered the 2025 campaign with 83 wins. She has done a wonderful job leading CSUN to 17 wins so far in 2025. In conference is where the Matadors have shined the most. CSUN is a half game out of first place with a Big West record of 10-4. The Matadors have already bested their 2024 Big West record of 9-18, with still 13 games left to play.Â
Â
Between 2024 and 2025 this team has seen a huge turnaround. This season, CSUN is second in Big West only statistics for batting average at .282. The Matadors were sixth last year in that category. However, the calling card for this Matadors team in 2025 has been the pitching. CSUN is first overall in ERA at 2.29, all the way up from eighth in 2024 with a 3.56 clip.Â
Â
Morgan was a very successful pitcher during her college years at the University of Alabama. She has imparted wisdom onto the Matadors' best pitcher of the year, Lauryn Carranco. Carranco has improved each year under the direction of Morgan and her junior year is proving to be her best yet. Carranco leads the Big West in ERA with a 1.43 average in conference games. She has had nine complete games and a 6-0 record to boot while allowing seven walks and 45 hits on the year.
Â
Morgan and her staff are also responsible for bringing over a star transfer for this season as well. Tiara Westbrook, who Morgan brought over in the offseason from Oregon State, has been a pillar in CSUN's success at the plate this year. Westbrook is leading the team with six home runs. She is second on the team in hits at 35 and also leads the squad in total bases at 59 (11 more than any other player).Â
Â
The Matador offense has shown great improvement from last season, highlighted by an exceptional day at the plate against Cal Poly on March 9 when CSUN tallied 19 hits in a 12-0 win. The 19 hits were the most by a CSUN team since 2004. Morgan credits the extra dedication, and the hours put in by the players to have such a day at the plate. The 19 hits are the most by any Big West team so far this season.
Â
Coach's Morgan's head coaching tenure started at CSUN in 2021 after being a pitching coach at the University of Maryland, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech and UT Arlington.Â
Â
CSUN looks to finish the rest of the Big West campaign strong as the Matadors head to Cal State Fullerton this weekend to take on the Titans for a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 p.m. as the game will be livestreamed on ESPN+
