FULLERTON, Calif -- CSUN Softball had three student-athletes named to the All-Big West Championship team for their performances in the tournament. Isabella Alonso, Lauryn Carranco, and Jerzie Liana all shined for the Matadors and were pivotal in CSUN's journey to the Championship game.Â
Â
Alonso had a clutch save in the semifinal game against Hawai'i that moved CSUN on to the championship. With CSUN clinging to a 4-3 lead, Alonso retired the Rainbow Wahine on a game-clinching double play that sent the Matadors to the championship game. Overall, she struck out three in nine innings of work. The junior from Cypress had two saves in the tournament, one in the second round and one in the semifinals.Â
Â
Carranco pitched the most innings for the Matadors throughout the tournament. CSUN rode the junior from Clovis throughout some of the most important moments and wins. Overall, she pitched in three games, with one complete game and a 2-1 record. She had a 3.32 ERA while striking out nine in the process. She pitched six innings in the second round and semifinal game, both games led to wins for Carranco. In the game to send the Matadors to the championship, she struck out five Hawai'i batters.
Â
Liana was perhaps the most impressive offensive player over the week for the Matadors, hitting .500 over four games. She had six hits in 12 plate appearances, including one triple and one RBI with eight total bases. Liana had what ended up being the game winning RBI against Hawai'i on Friday. At the time her sacrifice fly put CSUN up 4-1 and the Matadors ended up winning 4-3. Liana also had an on-base-percentage of .462 with two runs scored.
