LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that CSUN's Tiara Westbrook has earned NFCA Division I All-West Region honors. The sophomore from Arcadia was named to the Second Team. It is the first time a Matador has been recognized for All-Region honors since Megan Stevens and Jillian James in 2019.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated student-athletes (eight maximum) and voted for the teams. All awarded student-athletes now become eligible for the 2025 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
Westbrook was selected as a Designated Player on the Second Team and came in her first year with the Matadors. The sophomore transfer from Oregon State had a very impressive season, leading the Matadors in several categories. Westbrook led the team in batting average (.351), OPS (1.030), home runs (10), RBIs (38), total bases (88), slugging percentage (.595) and on base percentage (.435). Westbrook's 38 RBIs were the most by a Matador since Stevens in 2019.
Earlier this season, she had a superb performance in the Mary Nutter Classic. Westbrook took Big West Field Player of the Week honors for her contributions after batting .588 with an .882 slugging percentage in the tournament. She also finished second in the Big West for home runs in conference play with eight.
Westbrook's best conference game came against UC Santa Barbara on May 2nd. In CSUN's 4-1 win against the Gauchos, Westbrook had a three-run home run to put the Matadors on top 4-0 in the second inning. The blast was the difference in what would end up being the series clincher.
In terms of the most selections to the All-Region teams, The Southeastern Conference's 76 selections led the way. The Big Ten Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference each totaled 57 student-athletes. The Big 12 Conference (29) and Mountain West Conference (15) rounded out the top five, while the BIG EAST Conference (11), Sun Belt Conference (11) and the American Athletic Conference (10) also produced double figures.
University of Arkansas (Central), Clemson University (Mid-Atlantic), Duke University (East), Ohio State University (Great Lakes), University of Oklahoma (Midwest) and University of California Los Angeles led the way with all eight of their nominations receiving All-Region recognition with the Bruins garnering five first-team selections, followed by the Tigers and Sooners with four, the Blue Devils and Buckeyes with three and the Razorbacks with one.
The 2025 NFCA Division I All-America teams, voted on by the NFCA DI All-American Committee, will be announced on Wednesday, May 28
