NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---Fifteen members of the CSUN Water Polo team earned All-Academic Team honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches on Wednesday. CSUN posted 15 honorees on the annual all-academic team for the third-consecutive season.Â
"Fifteen student-athletes earning this honor is quite an accomplishment," said head coach Matt Warshaw. "I am proud of their effort in the classroom, we spend a lot of time as a team talking about perspective and remembering the reasons they are in our program. It's nice to see them being rewarded for their hard work."
The ACWPC recognizes honorees in three categories based on grade point average (GPA): Outstanding (3.71-4.00), Superior (3.41-3.70) and Excellent (3.20-3.40). To qualify, a student-athlete must be a member of a team during the 2024-25 academic year and have competed in at least one contest.
A total of eight Matadors received the Outstanding distinction, which include Marin Byars, Jade Cuevas, Sofia Martinez, Jessica Matkovich, Anna Pal, Helena Sandhagen, Tatum Scarry and Dorottya Telek. Earning Superior honors were Kate Cornejo, Lucie Lapuz, Abigel Kiss, Kelsey Meyers, Alexis Smith and Erika Staine while Valeria Martinez collected Excellent honors.Â
As a group, CSUN was one of 59 water polo programs to receive team all-academic accolades with a cumulative 3.46 GPA.Â
Earlier in July, eight members of the CSUN Water Polo would collect All-Big West Academic Team honors while 14 Matadors were placed on the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll, capping another excellent year in the classroom.Â
