NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - CSUN Men's Volleyball student-athletes Stilian Delibosov and Joao Avila were invited to play for their respective countries' U21 developmental teams this past summer, even squaring off against each other in a match in France in early August.
As key members of their respective U21 national teams, both players are prepping to compete for their senior national teams down the road.Â
Delibosov and his Bulgaria team and Avila and his Brazil squad met in a series of friendly matches at the LE111 Sports Center in the French town of Moselle. The series of matches provided preparation for the U21 World Championships to be held in China in September.
With Delibosov playing opposite for Bulgaria and Avila playing both outside hitter and libero for Brazil, the Bulgarians claimed a straight-set victory. Brazil would rebound to defeat France in the final of the two-match friendly series.
Organized with the support of the Moselle Department, these matches were part of the "Moselle Terre de Jeux" initiative. This program promotes the entire region in the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, while giving the local public the unique opportunity to attend matches of world-class level.
