NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — CSUN Acting Director of Athletics Mary Beth Walker has announced the appointment of Jeff Hall as head coach of the CSUN Beach Volleyball program.
A respected builder of championship-caliber programs with a proven track record of developing All-America student-athletes, Hall becomes the fifth head coach in the 12-year history of CSUN Beach Volleyball.
"We are excited to welcome Jeff to the Matador Family as our new head beach volleyball coach," Walker said. "With his impressive track record of success as a collegiate beach volleyball coach, Jeff will be an incredible asset to our beach program, and we look forward to the program's continued success under his leadership."
"I'd like to thank Dr. Mary Beth Walker, Sonia Hahn, and the rest of the hiring committee for believing in me and my vision for CSUN Beach Volleyball," Hall said. "I am humbled and excited to lead this program and give everything I have to this amazing team. It is a rare and unique opportunity to follow in the footsteps of one of my former great players (Ari Homayun), continue her success, and get a chance to guide this program into the future."
Hall most recently coached at the University of Hawai'i, where he built the Beach Bows' program into a perennial national contender in his five-plus seasons as head coach. A two-time Big West Coach of the Year (2016, 2018), Hall is UH's all-time winningest beach volleyball coach, posting a phenomenal 136-38 (.782) record from 2015-20. Under his leadership, the Rainbow Wahine captured three Big West titles, made five NCAA tournament appearances, reached two Final Fours, and earned a No. 1 national ranking for five weeks. He was named Big West Coach of the Year twice and coached six AVCA All-Americans and 22 all-conference selections.
Among Hall's other highlights in his time at Hawai'i, he led the beach program to four NCAA Tournaments with a top-four finish in each appearance. He also led UH to a school-record 37 wins, a Big West title, and it's second straight third-place NCAA finish in 2018. UH won 32 straight matches in 2018, a school record and the longest win streak in the nation that season. In 2015, he helped UH achieve its first ever No. 1 ranking, a program first. UH ended the season with a 17-1 regular season record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the AVCA National Championship.
While in Honolulu, Hall also served as the Rainbow Wahine women's indoor associate head coach under legendary coach Dave Shoji, for three seasons (2015-17). In 2015, he helped the Rainbow Wahine to the NCAA Regional Finals, a 29-2 overall record and a perfect 16-0 mark in the Big West. Hall also spent three seasons (2011–14) as associate head coach and assistant coach with the Hawai'i men's program, where he specialized in recruiting, scouting and defensive systems.
Before his time at UH, Hall coached at his alma mater, the University of the Pacific, as the top assistant for the men's indoor team (2006–10) and at UC San Diego as an assistant for both men's and women's indoor squads (2004–06). He began his college coaching career at Grossmont College (2000–04) and Laney College (1997–98), where he was head coach of the women's team.
He also coached at Mission Bay High School for three years and was the head coach of the top-ranked Seaside 18's club team in Del Mar for seven seasons. His club won the gold medal at the Junior Olympics in Minneapolis in 2006 while also producing seven Top 10 finishes nationally, including five in the Top 5.
Beyond the college game, Hall coached at the junior level for more than a decade, producing 10 Junior Olympic All-Americans and guiding teams to multiple national medals.
Considered one of the top players in Pacific volleyball history, Hall was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year in his two seasons with the Tigers in 1993 and 1994. After graduating, he was selected to the United States Olympic Festival during the summers of 1993 and '94. Hall played professionally on the AVP tour for four seasons; however, he has spent more than 25 years playing and coaching on the beach.
Prior to Pacific, Hall played at Orange Coast Junior College, where he earned first-team all-Orange Empire Conference honors. He also attended and played at Park College where he was named Offensive Player of the Year, as well as an All-American at the A.A.U. Junior Nationals competition.
A native of St. Paul, Minn, Hall is a 1999 graduate of the University of the Pacific, earning his bachelor's degree in fine arts in graphic design. At CSUN, Hall will coach his daughter, Dylan, who earned All-Big West honorable mention honors as a freshman, along with partner Hannah Heflin in 2025.
