CSUN's Stay at ITA Regionals Highlighted with Wins Over NCAA Tourney Teams

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- CSUN Women's Tennis completed a busy weekend of action in San Diego at the ITA Southwest Regionals from Oct. 15-19, highlighted by a Round of 16 appearance from the doubles team of Mika Ikemori and Satsuki Ishikawa. CSUN found wins against Top-30 teams in the country in USC, UCLA, Arizona and San Diego State.

WHERE THE MATADORS WON
During the first day of the tournament on Thursday. Ikemori and Ishikawa shined in their opening match as they took down Raphaelle Leroux and Isabella Wong by a score of 8-2.

In singles on Thursday, the Matadors won four matches in the qualifying rounds. Sandra Isabela Arguelles found the winners circle against Arizona's Sophia Christodoulou, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5. Arizona made it to the NCAA Regionals last season. Ran Todo defeated fellow Big West foe Martina Puvill of Cal State Fullerton, 6-3, 6-2. Tallia Harper was victorious in her matchup against a Big West opponent as she defeated Isabella Pitchford, 6-4, 6-1 of UC Irvine. Harper than earned her spot in the main draw as she bested Candela Aparisi of Cal Poly in straight sets, 6-0. 6-3.

In the open doubles round of 32 on Friday, Ikemori and Ishikawa continued their winning ways. They defeated Mackenzie Lukin and Sayuri Parandian of UC Irvine, 8-6.

Also on Friday during the main draw singles Round of 64, Ikemori defeated Sonya Goldberg of UC San Diego. 6-4, 6-1. Ishikawa bested Vessa Turley of San Diego State, 7-5, 6-3 and Harper won decisively over a Power Four opponent in Kiara Zabkova of USC, 6-2, 6-3. The Trojans went 21-7 in 2026 and made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

In the extra matches singles matches of the tournament, Arguelles overcame a big deficit to take down Koronayashe Rugara of UCLA, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-5. Like USC, UCLA made it to the third round of the NCAA tournament as well in 2026.

To round out the weekend, Todo bested Tia Bonita Jakupovic-Kljako of Cal Poly: 7-5, 6-4
