The Wolverines erased a two-goal deficit with five consecutive strikes in the second half in securing the victory. For CSUN, freshman Harper Curnutt scored her first career goal while Lia Peterson notched her team-leading sixth of the year.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wolverines began by launching a barrage of shots at the Matador net, as goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin racked up four saves over the first 10 minutes of action. CSUN though turned the tables near the halfway point of the first half. Pressure on the the offensive side of the ball led to a Utah Valley foul in its own box when goalkeeper Madeleine Boucher fouled a charging Peterson. A penalty kick was awarded to the Matadors, but Jordyn Canister had her shot saved by Boucher going to her right. Siena Navarra sent a second shot that Boucher hit over the crossbar by leaving her feet.Â
Undeterred, the Matadors kept on pressing on the offensive end, leading to the game's first goal. In the 33rd minute, Canister set up the chance with a shot from the right side that hit off the right post. The ball though bounced to an open Curnutt who found the net to put CSUN on top. Another Matador drive up the field three minutes later led to another Matador strike when Malea Johnson sent a service toward the middle of the box. Peterson put herself in position to head in the pass, giving the Matadors a 2-0 lead.Â
CSUN took a two-goal lead to the second half, but Utah Valley fought back into the game in the early minutes of the period. In the 51st minute, precise passing atop the box led to Nixan Jackson hitting the net with a left-footed shot. The game would be tied in the 63rd minute after a Wolverine drive up the field as a pair of touch passes gave Addie Olson room to score from the left corner of the box. The Wolverines' Josie Clawson gave her team the lead in the 71st minute with a shot from the left side of the box while she completed a brace in the 80th minute, set by by Jackson and Olson. Utah Valley hit the net for a fifth time in the final minute of action with Mia Owens sending a shot past Mauldin.Â

ACCORDING TO COACH GINA BREWER
"The reality is that this is our seventh game in three weeks. We've had Wednesday and Saturday games for three weeks and it's a tall order to be asked to play 90 minutes back-to-back-back for seven games straight. Unfortunately, fatigue set in. Utah Valley is from Utah, they play at elevation and they're extremely fit. They can run all day long. We got fatigued and they still had a lot of energy."
"Hayden and Jordyn have brought so much to our program. Hayden was a fantastic goalkeeper before I came here, and unfortunately, she had a two-year setback with a shoulder injury. We just got her back this year, but he's just a great leader. Jordyn has created so many assists and goals for our team, and just a powerhouse in that attack. They are both fantastic players, who we'll miss a lot, but once a Matador, always a Matador."
