NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---After helping CSUN post two thrilling road wins and move into a three-way tie atop the Big West, senior Josiah Davis was named Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week and Big West Player of the Week on Monday.Â
For the week, Davis averaged 26.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field (18-of-39).Â
Davis began last week with a career-best performance in an 85-83 overtime win against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday. The 6-3 guard poured in a career-high 31 points and 14 rebounds while dishing out seven assists over 43 minutes on the court. Davis helped CSUN rally from 13 points behind in the second half including a four-point comeback with 16 seconds to play. After Joshua O'Garro scored a putback layup, Davis forced a steal in the Gaucho backcourt before finding Grady Lewis with the game-tying layup. Davis also scored five of CSUN's nine points in overtime.Â

Two night later, Davis added 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting in a tight 78-76 victory at Long Beach State. The Matador point guard also handed out nine assists and picked up a steal. A total of 15 of his 21 points came in the second half as the Matadors held off the Beach to move into a three-way tie for first place in the Big West standings.Â
A native of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Davis enters the week fourth in the nation in total assists (203) and assists per game (7.3) to go with averaging the second-highest points on the team at 14.8. Davis became just the second Matador in school history to reach 200 assists for a single season this past week, joining Marcus Carr who accomplished the feat twice in his CSUN career (2000 and 2001).
Davis is the third Matador to be named Big West Player of the Week this season, joining Larry Hughes II (Dec. 15) and Mahmoud Fofana (Feb. 2).Â
The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the top player in Division I college basketball. The award voting panel is made up of current Division I coaches, athletic administrators, and senior College Insider staff members.Â
CSUN returns to action on Thursday, hosting fellow Big West leader UC Irvine at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.Â
