Davis Named Big West Player of the Year, Four Matadors Earn All-Big West Honors

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN Men's Basketball placed four on the 2025-26 Big West All-Conference Team on Tuesday with senior Josiah Davis collecting Big West Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards.Â

Davis would pick up All-Big West First Team honors as well while senior Larry Hughes II was placed on the second team. Seniors Mahmoud Fofana and Joshua O'Garro each received honorable mention accolades. Fofana was also recognized with the Big West Best Hustle Player award on Tuesday.Â
A native of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Davis would have a banner regular season for CSUN in his first year with the program. Davis took over the point guard position this season and has gone on to rank among the best in the nation in assists. Entering this week's Big West Championship, Davis' 236 total assists and 7.4 assists per game are ranked third and fifth in the nation, respectively, and his assist total is the second-most in CSUN history. During the season, Davis tied the school record for assists in a game in two separate games while he reached double figures in assists in eight games.Â
Davis would also enjoy a career season on the scoring side, posting 15.7 points per game, good enough for second-best on the team and eighth-best in the Big West. Davis has led CSUN in scoring average in Big West play, registering 17.4 points per game, highlighted by a career-high 38 points at UC Riverside on Feb. 28, which was the eighth-most scored in a game in team history. In addition, Davis has recorded two game-winning shots on the season against Fresno State on Dec. 10 and at Cal State Bakersfield on March 5.Â
Davis is the first Matador to win Big West Player of the Year award since Lamine Diane in 2019-20 and the first CSUN player to win the Newcomer of the Year honor since TJ Starks in 2020-21. He is also the first to win both Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards in the same season since Diane in 2018-19.Â

A St. Louis native, Hughes has also made a splash in his first season with CSUN. Hughes has led CSUN in scoring throughout the season, posting a career-best scoring average of 17.6 to rank fourth in the Big West. The sharp-shooting Hughes would top the Big West in three-point field goals made per game (3.1) and total 3-point field goals made (95) while he is ranked third in 3-point percentage (37.5). On the defensive side, Hughes has also collected 1.6 steals per game to rank fifth in the conference.
Hughes has reached double figures in scoring in 28 games with his best scoring coming on Feb. 5 when he scored a career-high 32 points at Cal Poly. His 95 made threes are also the fourth-most in a season in school history while it ranks 33rd-most in the nation on the year. Prior to this season, Hughes had not averaged higher than 7.4 points while his previous career best in threes made was 49.Â

Fofana would see career highs in multiple categories in his third season with CSUN. The 6-6 forward played at the four and five positions this year where he was second on the team in rebounds per game at 7.9 and fourth in points per game at 11.3, both of which are new Division I career highs. Fofana has topped the Big West in field goal percentage with a 63.2 mark to go with 146 field goals made.Â
A San Jose native, Fofana has reached double figures in scoring 21 times this season along with double figures in rebounding nine times. He posted seven double-doubles in the regular season with seven coming in Big West play. He enters the Big West Championship this week with 591 career rebounds, which rank 10th-most in CSUN history. The All-Big West honor is the first in Fofana's collegiate career while he becomes the first CSUN player to earn the Best Hustle Player award since Terrell Jones in 2006-07.Â

O'Garro would also produce a career season in his first year with CSUN. A transfer from Texas State, O'Garro started 31 games at forward where he went on to lead the Big West in rebounds per game at 9.4. He is third on the team in scoring, registering 14.4 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting. O'Garro has reached double figures in scoring 25 total times, highlighted by a career-high 28 points scored at Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 10.Â
Originally from George Town, Cayman Islands, O'Garro is the leader in the Big West in double-doubles, registering 13 on the season to rank 22nd in the nation. O'Garro has also reached double figures in rebounds 14 times. Nationally, O'Garro is seventh in all of Division I basketball in defensive rebounds per game (7.4) along with 21st in overall rebounds per game. With his 290 total rebounds collected this year, O'Garro is ranked 10th in school history for rebounds in a season.Â
