Two Matadors in Top 25 After Round One of El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif. - Bryson Barnes and Domenic De Luca are each in the top 25 after the opening round of the El Macero Classic on Friday at El Macero Country Club.
As a team, CSUN posted a round one score of 10-over 298 and sits in a tie for 14th in the 19-team field. Pacific carded a team round of 4-under 284 to lead the team competition, while the Tigers'  Felix Bouchard (-4, 68) holds a one-shot advantage in the individual competition.
Barnes, who began the day on the No. 10 tee, was 3-over after his opening four holes. A birdie at No. 14 would propel Barnes on a run that saw him go 5-under over his next seven holes to get to 2-under for the round. Barnes had an eagle and four birdies over the stretch. He would finish 2-over on his final seven holes to close out a round of even-par 72, which is tied for 11th.
De Luca, who is tied for 25th at 1-over 73, had three birdies in round one along with four bogeys. He even through 14 holes on Friday before finishing 1-over on his final four holes of the day.

- Following Barnes and De Luca, Ethan Posthumus is tied for 69th at 4-over 76 after posting three birdies in round one.
- Tavin Boman had a single birdie and six bogeys in the opening round and is tied for 75th at 5-over 77
- Liam Judkins rounded out the CSUN scoring, also posting three birdies - along with four bogeys and three double bogeys - in an 8-over 80 which is tied for 95th.
HEAD COACH JIM BRACKEN SAID
"Bryson and Dom played well, but as a team we wasted a lot of opportunities and just didn't play very well. The conditions are expected to be tougher tomorrow, but I'm hoping we can put together a good round and move up the leaderboard."
UP NEXT
CSUN will be paired with UC Riverside, Fresno State, and Wyoming for round two, which gets underway Saturday with tee times starting at 8:55 a.m.
