Women's Golf in Sixth After Opening Round of Big West Championship

KA'ANAPALI, Maui. -Â Senior Kim Turgut fired a one-under 71 to lead the CSUN Women's Golf team after the opening round of the 2026 Big West Women's Golf Championship on Sunday at Ka'anapali Golf Course. As a team, the Matadors opened with a team round of 9-over 297, which is sixth in the nine-team championship field. CSUN opens the second round trailing team-leading UC Davis by 12 shots.
Turgut had five birdies in round one, posting three on the back nine to get to one-under for her round. After a bogey and a double bogey over her opening six holes, she bounced back with a pair of birdies at No. 7 and No. 9 to make the turn at one-over. Three more birdies, and a single bogey on the back nine dropped her to one-under 71 for the round. Tied for fifth with four other players, Turgut heads into Monday's second round eight shots off the lead but only two shots out of second.
Individually, Long Beach State's Madison Le shot a blistering 9-under 63 in round one to take a six-shot lead into round two.

- Following Turgut, senior Gracie Piar and junior Nicole Tanoue are also in the top 20 after the opening 18 holes. Piar made birdie on her opening hole before finishing the front nine at 3-over. She then made par on every hole on the back nine to finish the day tied for 20th at 3-over 75. Tanoue had a pair of birdies and two bogeys on the front nine to make the turn at even-par. She then added one birdie on the back nine - but also had four bogeys - to close out a 3-over 75.
- Ariya Soldwisch had three bogeys and one double on the front nine and made the turn at 5-over. She then had a pair of birdies on the back nine to get back to 4-over 76, which is tied for 27th.
- Making her Big West Championship debut, freshman Lily McGowan is also tied for 27th at 4-over 76 after notching one birdie, 12 pars, and five bogeys in round one.
