NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The CSUN women's golf team is set to tee off the 2026 Big West Women's Golf Championship on Sunday at Ka'anapali Golf Course in Ka'anapali, Maui. Nine teams will converge in Maui from April 19–21 with a conference title and NCAA Regional berth on the line.Â
Played across 54 holes of stroke play, the championship features nine teams competing in a picturesque setting. Tee times in Sunday's opening round begin at 1:30 p.m. PT/10:30  a.m. HT from the Royal Ka'anapali Course, one of only two layouts in Hawai'i designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.
CSUN is seeded sixth in the nine-team field and will tee off on Sunday at 2:20 p.m. PT/11:20 a.m. HT. The Matadors will be paired with No. 4 seed Long Beach State and No. 5 seed Cal Poly for round one.
Head coach Michelle Winkler's five-player lineup will consist of Gracie Piar, Nicole Tanoue, Kim Turgut, Ariya Soldwisch, Kim Turgut, and Lily McGowan. Meghan Paracuelles will be CSUN's alternate. Two Matadors in the lineup hail from Hawai'i, with Tanoue calling Honolulu her hometown and Soldwisch returning to Maui to play on her native island. Â
With the exception of freshman McGowan, the Matadors have plenty of Big West Championship experience as Piar and Turgut will compete at the conference championship for the fourth time. Tanoue will make her third appearance and Soldwisch makes her second. Soldwisch owns the best finish of the current CSUN players, finishing tied for seventh last year at 5-over 221. Piar tied for 10th in 2024 and tied for 21st in 2023, and 28th in 2025. Turgut's best finish at the championship also came in 2024 when she finished in a tie for 22nd at 17-over 233. Turgut also tied for 28th in both 2023 and 2025. Tanoue finished tied for 19th at 14-over 230 in her Big West Championship debut, before tying for 28th last year.
As a team, the Matadors have a pair of tournament wins this season in addition to a dual match win over Cal State Bakersfield in October. Piar comes into the championship with a team-leading 73.33 scoring average and has five top 10 and three top 20 finishes this season. Tanoue ranks second in scoring average (73.79), while posting four top 10 finishes. Tanoue also has one of CSUN's two individual wins this season, capturing the Soboba Classic in February. Turgut ranks third in scoring average at 74.03 and also has four top 10 finishes. Soldwisch (74.89) has three top 10s and the other Matador win, claiming CSUN-CSUB dual match.
CSUN, which took home Big West Championships in both 2003 and 2004, is looking to replicate or better its team finishes from 2019 when the Matadors finished second to Long Beach State. CSUN also finished as the championship runner-up to UC Davis in 2014.
Brianna Steger had CSUN's best finish in recent years, finishing as individual runner-up in 2019 after posting rounds of 69-71-77 to finish at (+1) 217 at Moorpark Country Club. The Matadors have had three players win or tie for the individual championship: Beth Allen in 2003 and 2004 and Clariss Guce in 2014.
Nine of 10 golfers who finished in the top 10 of last season's individual leaderboard, representing five programs, return to compete again, with 13 members listed on a 2025 All-Big West team bringing postseason familiarity to a new locale and exciting opportunity for postseason glory for the full field of competitors.Â
