NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The CSUN softball team found the winners circle in the third game of a three-game series against UC San Diego, 6-3 on Senior Day at Matador Diamond Saturday afternoon. Seniors Raegan Jackson and Madison Okano led the way with two RBIs each. Senior Malia Williams pitched a complete game and got the victory.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
After a scoreless first inning from both teams, the Tritons put up a three spot in the top of the second. With two runners on base, Samantha Womack hit a ball over the left field wall to make it 3-0 after one and a half.
Â
In the bottom half of the third, CSUN got on the board with back-to-back doubles from Savannah Simons and Vanessa Perez to make it 3-1. Jackson continued the hit streak as she promptly singled up the middle, scoring Perez and cutting the lead in half to 3-2.Â
Â
CSUN then tied things up at three apiece when Okano singled up the middle and Jackson scored.Â
Â
It would remain 3-3 until the bottom of the fifth. Okano singled and then the next batter, Amber Rivas, doubled off the left-center wall and Okano came around from first to score as CSUN earned its first lead of the game at 4-3.
Â
The Matadors added some insurance in the bottom of the sixth. CSUN saw three consecutive singles from Simons, Perseus Yanez, and Perez. Jackson hit a sacrifice fly to right field as Simons scored for the fifth run of the game as CSUN doubled its lead.Â
Â
The home team added one more when Okano singled to shortstop to make it a 6-3 game.
Â
Williams kept the Tritons bats at bay, as she didn't allow a single run after the second inning, giving up only five hits on the day.
Â
NOTES OF THE GAME
"It was a great win. I'm really happy for the seniors to get the win in front of their families. We also had women's tennis out here cheering us on after their tournament run so to get that support was great. We got a big win on an important day. To come back down from 3-0 early, it started off with Savannah [Simons]. She's super gritty and her energy gets us going. We knew we wanted the day, I'm just really proud of how the team stuck with the plan, passing the torch, and getting it done. I'm really proud of Malia too, she will admit she didn't have her best stuff today, but she kept us in it and really only had one mistake that was the home run. She got better as the game went on."
