Joshua Medina completed his first season on the CSUN Baseball staff. He worked as the team's director of player development and volunteer assistant coach.
In Medina's first season on the staff, the Matadors posted their most wins and best Big West finish in 21 seasons. CSUN would go 34-17 and 20-10 in conference, good enough for a second-place finish in The Big West. The Matadors were a mere tiebreaker away from clinching an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Prior to joining CSUN, Medina lettered four seasons at Division II Sonoma State from 2018-22. Playing for legendary head coach John Goelz, Medina earned All-CCAA First Team and All-West Region First Team accolades in his senior season as a two-way player.
As a senior, Medina batted .337 at the plate with seven homers and 33 RBI while also posting a 2.16 ERA and six saves on the mound. He also was named a CCAA All-Star in the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign when he registered a 1.42 ERA and .333 batting average.Â
Medina helped Sonoma State reach the postseason for the first time in eight seasons during the 2022 season. His performance on Senior Day, which included a 4-for-4 day at the plate and two homers, helped the Seawolves clinch a postseason berth.
Throughout his playing career, Medina has been working at The Ball Yard in Northridge with professional hitting coach Doug Latta. After graduating, Medina served as infield and hitting coach for Sonoma State.
Prior to Sonona State, Medina attended his hometown Chatsworth High School and played for head coach Tom Meusborn. In 2016 and 2017, Medina had the opportunity to play for the City Section Championship at Dodger Stadium. He was a two-time first-team All-West Valley League outfielder while he received first-team all-city honors in 2017.
Medina graduated from Sonoma State in 2022 with a degree in business management.
