James Covell serves as the administrative analyst for the athletic director, assisting with day-to-day operations. Â

Covell previously served as the interim director of basketball operations for the CSUN Men's Basketball team during the 2021-22 season.Â
Prior to CSUN, Covell spent three seasons at Division III Caltech from 2018-21 as an assistant coach. With the Beavers, Covell worked as the team's recruiting coordinator and played a major role in practice and game preparation, video analysis, scouting and coaching.

With Covell on the sidelines, Caltech broke a number of single-game, single-season and team records. He also helped the team post its first winning season in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 66 seasons in 2019-20.

Covell also worked over the 2021 summer with West Coast Elite's Valley and Los Angeles branches. Prior to Caltech, Covell spent two seasons as an assistant coach at California Miramar University from 2016-18.

He played college basketball at the University of Saint Katherine and graduated with a degree in Business Management in 2015. Covell earned his master's in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia-Irvine in 2019.

Covell attended La Canada High School and graduated in 2010.
