A veteran on the Matador sidelines, Ivan Alzate is in his 10th season as a women's soccer assistant and his 13th overall with CSUNÂ in 2021. He returned back to the women's soccer team in 2016 after last working on the staff in 2004.Â
Since his return to the women's soccer team, CSUN won its first Big West regular season championship in 2016 and advanced to two Big West title games. The Matadors have won 38 games over a four-year span and advanced to the conference tournament three times. A total of 24 players have won all-conference awards including three major awards.

No stranger to CSUN, Alzate has assisted both the women's soccer and men's soccer teams dating back to 1997.Â

Alzate served as a member of the men's soccer coaching staff from 1997-1999 and the 2004 campaign under current men's soccer head coach Terry Davila. For the women's soccer program, Alzate assisted the coaching staff from 2000-2004.Â
Along with his coaching stints with CSUN, Alzate has also coached youth club soccer since 1990. He is currently serving as a head coach with Real So Cal club soccer.Â
Alzate graduated from Southwest Miami Senior High in Miami in 1984, where he played high school soccer and was named to the All-County team three years in a row. He then played for Miami Dade Community College, where he earned his A.A. degree before transferring to CSUN. He competed for Matadors during the 1988 season under Matador Hall of Fame head coach Marwan Ass'ad.
He graduated from CSUN with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chicano Studies.Â
