CSUN Earns Fourth Straight Shutout in Scoreless Draw at UCSD
10/5/2025 4:59:00 PM | Women's Soccer
LA JOLLA, Calif.---CSUN Women's Soccer fought to a 0-0 draw at UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon at Triton Soccer Stadium. Senior Riley Liebsack recorded a season-high eight saves in posting her sixth shutout of the season.Â
The Matadors notched their fourth consecutive shutout, setting a school record for clean sheets to start Big West play.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Liebsack would be tested throughout the afternoon, posting her first of eight saves in the third minute of action. The Matadors nearly found the net in the early going as well, when a corner kick led to a look from Paige Califf in front of the goal, but goalkeeper Charlotte Wilfert stopped the shot. Perhaps UCSD's closest call at the net came in the ninth minute on a deep shot from Alexis Nguyen that banged off the crossbar. In the 11th minute, the Matadors withstood a pair of shots from Ava Tibor before thwarting a corner kick second later. UC San Diego led the shot count in the first half, 10-5, with the Tritons' final shot coming in the 41st minute, which Liebsack snared on a move to her left.Â
After halftime, each side combined for 17 shot attempts with five saves made by each goalkeeper. The Matadors were denied of going ahead in the 68th minute when Cailey Jackson gained a pass from Yoshi Rubalcava in the box. Jackson had room with a defender behind her, but Wilfert made a timely save on the close range shot. The ball would trickle back to the top left of the box where Yasmin Azar delivered a second shot, however, the ball hit off Jackson. The final 10 minutes saw Liebsack record saves in the 81st and the 83rd minutes while Wilfert made a two-handed save on an attempt from Rubalcava in the 88th. Chloe Yates took the final shot in the 90th minute, which went just wide right.Â
NOTES OF THE GAME

"We are really proud of being hard to beat. We didn't feel like it was our best performance, but we battled until the end and are happy to come away with a point on the road. A fantastic defensive effort from the whole team and another fantastic performance from our goalkeeper Riley!"
