Matt Brandt joined the CSUN Sports Medicine staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in August 2015 and was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer in the summer 2019. He works primarily with women's soccer while additionally providing oversight for the softball program. He is also charged with managing inventory and purchasing supplies for the sports medicine department, as well as managing the Satellite Athletic Training Center. He was previously the primary contact for Track and Field, women’s tennis and men’s & women’s golf.Â
Prior to CSUN, Brandt was an intern at the University of Florida, where he worked with the men's and women's swimming & diving programs and played an integral role in the men's 2015 Southeastern Conference Championship. In addition, he volunteered his services to help aid postgraduate professional and Olympian swimmers training with Gator Swim Club.
Prior to that, Brandt served as the Athletic Trainer for the USA Water Polo Men's National Team in the summer of 2013 and also assisted with coverage of the Junior, Youth and Cadet National Teams. Later in 2013, he joined Performance Therapy at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica as a Physical Therapy Aide.
Brandt earned a Master's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Medicine and Injury Studies at Long Beach State in 2013, where he served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer. As a GA, Brandt worked with the men's water polo and men's volleyball programs. After graduating from LBSU, Brandt presented a case study at the 2013 National Athletic Trainers Association Annual Conference and Symposium entitled "Paget-Schrotter Syndrome in a Collegiate Volleyball Player: A Case Study."
Brandt completed a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training at Fresno State in 2011. As an Athletic Training Student, he gained hands on experience with various teams such as football, men's basketball, women's volleyball, baseball, men's and women's tennis and women's lacrosse. He was also a summer intern for the Oakland Raiders' training camp in 2010.
Brandt has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association since 2009 and has been a NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer since July 2011. He earned his Corrective Exercise Specialist certification in September 2019 and is additionally trained in dry needling for orthopedic rehab and sport performance. Brandt has served as a preceptor for the CSUN Athletic Training Education Program since spring 2016. Â
Brandt resides in Reseda with his wife Jessica and their dog Finn.
