Amy Olsen completed first season as an assistant to the water polo program in 2017-18. The Matadors finished the season with a No. 19 national ranking and went 15-18 on the year. Â
A well-traveled water polo player and coach, Olsen has extensive coaching experience at the club level. Since 2011, Olsen has served as head coach of the Chelsea Piers Athletic Club in Stamford, CT, and she has also coached youth with the Lake Club in Wilton, CT for the past three years.Â
An Iona College graduate (New Rochelle, NY), Olsen had a storied collegiate career with the Gaels where she helped her team make three NCAA Tournament appearances. Olsen scored over 100 goals in each of her last two years with the team and left as the program's all-time scoring leader with 368 total goals.
Helping Iona to three-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference titles from 2011-13, Olsen was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014. In all, she received three All-MAAC First Team selections (2012-14), two Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America Honorable Mention nods (2013-14) and the 2011Â MAACÂ Rookie of the Year award.Â
Following her collegiate career, Olsen made the transition to the professional ranks in France from 2014-16, playing for Nautic Club Angerien while also serving as team captain and an assistant coach for the NCA U-17 girls team. Olsen also had a stint with team Tritonas of the Professional Greek Water Polo League from 2016-17.Â
Last year, Olsen enrolled into Durham University in the United Kingdom to study marketing and compete with the university's water polo team. In March, Olsen took home Most Valuable Player honors as her team won the British University College Sports National Championship. In addition to her time playing, Olsen coached two Durham University women's water polo teams.Â
Originally from Baytown, TX, Olsen earned her bachelor's degree in mass communication with a minor in fine and performing arts at Iona College. Olsen will be earning her master's degree in marketing from Durham University this January.Â
