- Induction:
- 1995
- Class:
- 1986
Barbara Jordan was inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995. Jordan lettered for the CSUN Softball team from 1984 to 1987 under Hall of Fame coach Gary Torgeson. Her dominant collegiate run cemented her status as one of the school’s most decorated athletes.
Jordan led the Matadors to four consecutive NCAA Division II National Championship games, winning three national titles (1984, 1985, 1987). She was a three-time All-American, three-time All-region, and four-time All-CCAA selection as an outfielder.
As a player, she set six CSUN career records and was the team's top hitter for three straight years, was named the CCAA Most Valuable Player twice, and was the 1985 NCAA Division II Tournament MVP.
Jordan returned to her alma mater to serve as the head coach of the CSUN Softball team from 2001 through 2009. During her coaching tenure, she maintained a winning record, led the program through its transition in the Big West Conference, and served as an assistant coach for Team USA.
She spent eight seasons with the U.S. National Team program, winning seven Gold Medals as a player and coach, and serving as an alternate for the historic 1996 Olympic squad.
After graduating with a degree in kinesiology in 1986, Jordan went on to found Always Bev in 2018, a non-profit company offering personal safety and violence-prevention education. She created the initiative to honor the memory of her sister, Beverly, who was tragically murdered in 1988.
Jordan has since provided softball color commentary for ESPN, Fox Sports, CBS Sports Network, CSS, Cox, MLB.com, the ACC Network, and the Olympic Channel. She served as a lead color analyst for National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) broadcasts for over a decade.
